Blackrock, Inc.
One of the world's largest asset managers, BlackRock manages money for pension funds, institutions, and everyday investors, and its Aladdin software platform helps financial firms worldwide manage portfolio risk. It was founded in New York in 1988 by Larry Fink and seven partners, originally as Blackstone Financial Management (backed by the Blackstone Group), before a 1994 split brought the name BlackRock. A 2009 acquisition of Barclays Global Investors brought the widely used iShares exchange-traded funds.
