A Japanese telecommunications holding company whose roots go back to the nation's first telegraph line in 1869, NTT is behind everyday services like NTT Docomo mobile phones, broadband, and data-center and cloud computing for businesses around the world. Once a state-run monopoly nicknamed "Dendenkosha," it was privatized in 1985 into today's NTT group. Fun fact: the name NTT is the English translation of its Japanese name, Nippon Denshin Denwa, meaning "Nippon Telegraph and Telephone."
