Telefonica Brasil S.a.
A Brazilian telecommunications giant that operates under the Vivo brand, offering mobile, fiber-optic broadband, and pay-TV services to tens of millions of customers. It grew out of the 1998 privatization of Brazil's state telecom monopoly, when Spain's Telefónica bought the São Paulo fixed-line operator Telesp. The Vivo name, launched in 2003, is the Portuguese and Spanish word for "alive."
