A maker of medical imaging systems, Nano-X (commonly called Nanox) builds the Nanox.ARC, a 3D X-ray machine that uses a silicon "cold cathode" chip instead of the hot tungsten filament in traditional tubes. Founded in 2011 by Ran Poliakine and Hitoshi Masuya, the Israeli company's name blends "nano" (its nanofabrication) with "X" for X-ray. While conventional tubes heat a filament to about a third of the sun's surface temperature, Nanox's chip works at room temperature.
