A maker of industrial plasma systems based in Montreal, PyroGenesis designs equipment that uses thermal plasma — often called the "fourth state of matter" — to turn conventional "dirty" industrial processes into cleaner ones. Its products serve defense, metallurgy, mining, and 3D printing, including plasma torches and the metal powders used in additive manufacturing. Founded in 1991 and named from the Greek "pyro" (fire) and "genesis" (birth), it coined the term "Plasma Atomization" in 1995 for melting metal wire into high-purity spherical powder for 3D printing.
