Fanuc Corporation

A maker of factory automation gear, Fanuc builds the CNC (computer numerical control) systems that guide machine tools, plus the bright-yellow industrial robots that weld, assemble, and pack products. The name is short for Fuji Automatic Numerical Control, and the company grew out of a Fujitsu project team that built Japan's first numerical control systems in 1956 before spinning off in 1972. Its robots' yellow is so recognizable that factory floors are called a 'sea of yellow.'
