A maker of cloud-based accounting software for small businesses, Xero helps owners and their accountants track income, send invoices, and keep books in order from any device with an internet connection. It was founded in Wellington, New Zealand, in 2006 by tech entrepreneur Rod Drury and chartered accountant Hamish Edwards, who started the company in a small apartment. The name came from the letter X, chosen to feel modern and to make it easier to register a clean web domain.
