The company behind Australia's main stock exchange, where shares in businesses and other financial products are bought and sold, plus the clearing and settlement systems that keep those trades safe. It was born in 1987 when six separate state-based exchanges, some dating back to the 1800s, merged into one national market. A fun quirk: in 1998 it became the first exchange in the world to list on its own market after demutualizing.
