A French high-tech group building robots and navigation systems for sea, sky, and space — including unmanned underwater vehicles that clear sea mines and inertial systems that guide ships, submarines, and satellites. Its roots reach back to 1936, when two French engineers founded ECA; in 2022 the group merged ECA with navigation specialist iXblue and took the name Exail, blending "excellence," "exploration," and "sail." One mine-disposal drone has a patented tilting head that swivels to aim its charge at a mine.
