A global consumer internet group and technology investor, Naspers began in 1915 in Cape Town as De Nasionale Pers, an Afrikaans-language newspaper publisher founded to give Afrikaners a voice after the Anglo-Boer War. Today it backs and builds tech businesses worldwide—including South Africa's Takealot online store—through its Amsterdam-listed arm Prosus. Its most famous move: an early investment in Tencent, the Chinese messaging and gaming giant, that grew into one of the most successful tech bets ever made.
