A maker of high-speed networking gear that ties servers to storage in data centers, best known for Fibre Channel switches. Founded in 1995 in San Jose, California, it shipped its first product—a switch called SilkWorm—in 1997, and became part of Broadcom in 2017. Its name comes from "brocade," a richly woven fabric, a fitting label for a company that weaves networks together with a first product named after the worm that spins silk.
