Founded in 1995 in San Jose, California, it shipped its first product—a switch called SilkWorm—in 1997, and became part of Broadcom in 2017. Its name comes from "brocade," a richly woven fabric, a fitting label for a company that weaves networks together with a first product named after the worm that spins silk.
