Elizabeth Arden, Inc.
A maker of prestige skincare, cosmetics, and fragrances, Elizabeth Arden is known for its Eight Hour Cream balm and Red Door perfume. The company began in 1910 when Canadian-born Florence Nightingale Graham opened her first Red Door salon on Fifth Avenue, painting the door red to catch passersby's eyes. She took the name Elizabeth from a former business partner and Arden from Tennyson's poem 'Enoch Arden,' and Eight Hour Cream got its name after a client's son's grazed knee healed in eight hours.
