The Spectranetics Corporation

A maker of medical laser devices that clear blocked arteries and remove old pacemaker wires from the body. Founded in 1984 in Colorado by Robert Golobic and Johan Sverdrup, the company grew out of cold excimer laser technology that vaporizes plaque without the heat damage of earlier "hot-tip" lasers. Its name blends "spectrum" and "kinetics," a nod to the light-based energy at its core; in 2017 it became part of Royal Philips' image-guided therapy business.
