Cass Information Systems, Inc.
Started as a neighborhood bank in St. Louis in 1906, Cass Information Systems now audits and pays complex bills for large enterprises — freight invoices for shippers, plus utility, telecom, and waste-management expenses. The original Cass Avenue Bank launched a "Freight Payment Plan" in the 1950s, and the firm still owns its own bank, Cass Commercial Bank, to make those payments directly. It also publishes the widely cited Cass Freight Index of shipping activity.
