Select Comfort Corp

A maker of adjustable air-chamber mattresses, this Minneapolis company sells the Sleep Number line of beds that let each sleeper dial in their own firmness—numbered from 1 to 100—with smart models that even track sleep, heart rate, and breathing. It started in 1987 when Bob and JoAnn Walker, frustrated that traditional steel-spring mattresses couldn't fit two sleepers' needs, built a prototype in their garage after established makers turned the idea down. The company kept its original name, Select Comfort, until 2017, when it adopted the name of its famous product line.
