One of the world's largest independent technology and consulting firms, CGI designs, builds and runs the computer systems that keep governments and businesses — from banks to utilities to health agencies — working day to day. It was founded in 1976 in Quebec City by Serge Godin and André Imbeau. The name CGI is a bilingual play on words: in French it stands for "Conseillers en gestion et informatique" (management and IT consultants), while in English it's read as "Consultants to Government and Industry" — a handy double meaning for a company that serves both the public and private sectors.
