J. Alexander'S Holdings, Inc.

A Nashville-based restaurant company behind the upscale casual-dining brands J. Alexander's, Redlands Grill, and Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill, where guests order wood-fired steaks, prime rib, and fresh seafood in a relaxed but refined setting. It began in 1971 as Volunteer Capital Corporation, run by three local businessmen, and opened its first J. Alexander's restaurant in Nashville in 1991. The chain's name is a quirk of branding: trademark filings note that "J. Alexander" is not a real person at all.
