Donegal Group Inc.
An insurance holding company that, with its mutual partner, sells property and casualty coverage—home, auto, farm, and business policies—to individuals and companies across two dozen U.S. states. It began in 1889 when Lancaster County, Pennsylvania farmers formed the Donegal and Conoy Mutual Fire Insurance Company to protect their farms, taking its name from two local townships (not the Irish county). In 1986 it spun off Donegal Group Inc. as a stock holding company while the mutual kept voting control.
