Ferro Corporation
A maker of coatings and color materials, Ferro produced the porcelain enamel that covers oven interiors, cooktops, and cast-iron cookware, along with ceramic glazes and pigments sold worldwide. Founded in Cleveland in 1919 as the Ferro Enameling Company, it took its name from the Latin "ferrum" (iron), the metal it coated with glass-like enamel. In 1969 the company created a porcelain enamel that let household ovens become continuously self-cleaning, and in 2022 it was folded into Vibrantz Technologies, which carries on the products.
