NYSE Euronext
An operator of stock exchanges on both sides of the Atlantic, NYSE Euronext ran the New York Stock Exchange in the US and the Euronext markets in Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Lisbon, where investors trade stocks, bonds and derivatives. It was born in 2007 when the NYSE, which traces its roots to 1792, combined with Europe's Euronext to form the first transatlantic exchange. Its distant ancestor began when 24 brokers gathered under a buttonwood tree on Wall Street to set trading rules — a founding story still told today.
