Copano Energy, L.l.c.
A Houston-based midstream energy company, Copano Energy gathered, processed, and piped natural gas and natural gas liquids across Texas, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and Louisiana, feeding producers' output to major markets. Formed in 2001 from businesses operating under the Copano name since 1992, it grew into a large pipeline network before being bought by Kinder Morgan in 2013. Its name traces to Copano Bay on the Texas coast, itself named for the Copane, a tribe of the Karankawa people who once lived there.
