A maker of medical-grade skincare sold mainly through dermatologists and plastic surgeons, Obagi creates doctor-dispensed treatments for dark spots, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. It was founded in 1988 by Syrian-American dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi, who built his reputation in the 1980s on a "skin health science" philosophy that stressed healthy skin rather than treating disease. A fun quirk: the founder sold his stake in 1997 and later launched his own competing line, ZO Skin Health — so the brand still carries his name but not his ownership.
