Plains Exploration & Production Company
An American oil and gas exploration and production company, Plains Exploration & Production (often called PXP) searched for and pumped crude oil and natural gas from onshore fields in California, Texas and other states, plus offshore sites in the Gulf of Mexico. It was born in 2002 as a spin-off from Plains Resources, keeping the "Plains" name of its parent to stay connected to the family brand. The company later got folded into mining giant Freeport-McMoRan in 2013, a deal that turned the copper miner into a diversified natural-resource firm.
