Trius Therapeutics Inc
A developer of antibiotics for serious infections, this San Diego biopharmaceutical company's flagship medicine was tedizolid phosphate, a drug meant to fight hard-to-treat bacteria such as MRSA. Founded in 2004 as Rx3 Pharmaceuticals — a nod to the pharmacy shorthand Rx — it later took the name Trius Therapeutics. The compound itself was first created by South Korea's Dong-A Pharmaceutical, and in 2013 Cubist Pharmaceuticals bought Trius and later sold the medicine under the brand name Sivextro.
