Tejon Ranch Co
A land and agribusiness company that owns the largest single stretch of private property in California — about 270,000 acres straddling the Tehachapi Mountains. It grows almonds, pistachios and wine grapes, runs cattle, and develops the Tejon Ranch Commerce Center and master-planned communities along Interstate 5. The land traces back to four Mexican land grants gathered in the 1850s and 1860s by frontiersman Edward Beale, and the Spanish name "Tejón" means "badger," chosen in 1806 after explorers found a dead badger at a canyon mouth.
