An oil and natural gas producer that hunts for energy in American shale fields, drilling wells in places like the Eagle Ford, Permian, Uinta, and Haynesville basins. It began life as the exploration and production arm of the El Paso Corporation, then became its own company in 2012 when private-equity investors bought it out. Its name is a pun that works two ways: the letters EP stand for El Paso, but they also echo the industry's shorthand for "exploration and production."
