An independent energy company based in New York, Petro River Oil Corp. explores for and produces conventional oil and natural gas in Osage and Kay Counties, Oklahoma. It got its name in 2013, when the firm then called Gravis Oil Corporation acquired the private Petro River Oil, LLC and adopted its name, also moving its legal home from Alberta, Canada, to Delaware. The company hunts for reserves using 3D seismic imaging rather than shale fracking, in the oil-rich Mississippi Lime formation.
