Firefly Aerospace Inc.
A Texas-based space company that builds and flies its own rockets, delivering satellites to orbit from its "Rocket Ranch" test site, and sends its Blue Ghost lunar lander to the Moon to carry payloads for NASA and others. The firm traces back to 2014, when aerospace engineer Tom Markusic named it Firefly after watching actual fireflies from his back porch and imagining spacecraft drifting to Mars like the glowing insects. It was later rebuilt as Firefly Aerospace after the original firm's bankruptcy in 2017.
