Lonza Group AG
A Swiss life-sciences giant headquartered in Basel that develops and manufactures medicines, vaccines, and ingredients for other companies, including cell and gene therapies and the well-known Capsugel capsules that hold many of the world's vitamins and drugs. It was founded in 1897 in the town of Gampel, where founders tapped the nearby alpine Lonza River for hydroelectric power — giving the company its name — to make fertilizer chemicals. Today it counts among the world's largest contract manufacturers for the pharmaceutical industry.
