A mall retailer that sells band T-shirts, anime and gaming apparel, collectibles, and other pop-culture merchandise for fans of music and fandom. It was founded in 1989 by retail executive Orv Madden, who first opened a store at Montclair Plaza in Montclair, California, after noticing that alternative music-inspired fashion was hard to find in traditional shopping malls. The name comes from his plan to stock the "hot" trendiest items in music subculture that other mall shops overlooked.
